Nov. 2, 2008
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ----- UAB's Daniel Moser and Alex Emery each won a pair of matches here Sunday to advance to the singles final of the B Division at the Seminole Invitational. Since the title match features two UAB players, the Blazer teammates will meet for the championship Tuesday in Birmingham. Moser, a freshman from New Zealand, knocked off another Blazer, Dan Cornei, in semifinal round play, 6-0, 6-0, to reach the final. Moser had defeated Sergio Velez, 6-3, 6-4, in the quarters earlier in the day. Emery reached the title match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mississippi State's Ryan Farlow. Emery downed Dean Jackson of Florida A&M by a 6-4, 6-4 score in his first match of the day Sunday. UAB's doubles team of Emery and Brian Ly, who had upset 12th-ranked and defending tournament champion Clint Bowles Jean-Yves Aubone Saturday, lost in their quarterfinal match on Sunday, falling to the Miami (Fla.) tandem of Keith Crowley and Ignacio Taboada. "Overall, I think we have had a good tournament," said UAB head coach Derek Tarr. "The field here was very good. We had three of the guys reach the semifinals today and two are in the final. We had a doubles team beat the No. 12-ranked team in the country. "
