Blazers Conclude Non-Conference Schedule By Hosting Mississippi State Thursday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team will round out its 2007-08 non-conference schedule when it hosts the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs Thursday. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Bartow Arena.

The Blazers and Lady Bulldogs have met 25 times in the past, with UAB holding a slight edge in the all-time series, 13-12. The Blazers won the last meeting, 76-70, in Starkville, Miss. a season ago. The last time Mississippi State defeated UAB was in 2003 in Starkville.

UAB is currently 4-8 overall, including 2-2 in Bartow Arena. The Blazers' most recent outing resulted in a 59-58 win over Team Alabama in an exhibition game last Sunday.

UAB is led by senior guard/forward Diamond Rogers, who paces the Blazers in scoring, rebounds, assists and blocks. Rogers is putting up 17.8 ppg, which leads the team and Conference USA. She is also adding 7.7 rpg, 3.7 apg and 0.5 bpg on the year.

Senior guard Crystal McFadden, a two-time C-USA Player of the Week this season, is averaging 12.8 ppg and 5.1 rpg, while leading the squad in field goal percentage at .418. Junior guard Britney Jones is also averaging double-digit points with 11.4 ppg and is first on the team and third in the league in steals with 2.8 spg.

 

 

Mississippi State is boasting a 10-3 overall record and is undefeated in road games this season at 3-0. The Lady Bulldogs earned an 80-55 win over Louisiana-Lafayette in their last outing this past Sunday.

Sophomore forward Tysheka Grimes leads Mississippi State in scoring and rebounding with 13.3 points and 6.2 boards per game. Sophomore guard Alexis Rack is adding 11.7 ppg and senior forward Imesia Jackson is scoring 11.4 ppg and grabbing 5.8 rpg.
