Amanda Peterson Named Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

Nov. 25, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Sophomore Amanda Peterson has been named the UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week. A guard on the Blazer women's basketball team, Peterson has made the transition to college athletics and academic life with ease.

On the court, Peterson has started all three games this season and is averaging 12.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. She is picking up where she left off after a freshman campaign in which she earned Conference USA Sixth Player of the Year and All-Freshman Team honors.

Academically, Peterson arrived at UAB a season ago after graduating with a 4.0 GPA from nearby Homewood High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She has continued her hard work in the classroom at UAB, maintaining a 3.68 GPA through her first year with the Blazers.

Peterson and the UAB women's basketball team return to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT when the Blazers host No. 15 Auburn at Bartow Arena. UAB will then play in the Samford Classic this holiday weekend, taking on Evansville Friday at 5 p.m. CT and McNeese State Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
