BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team will host the Florida Gators at Bartow Arena on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. CT. It will mark the second Southeastern Conference opponent that the Blazers have played in the past week, having previously hosted Auburn last Wednesday.

UAB comes into the game with a 2-4 overall record. The Blazers' last outing resulted in a 56-53 win over McNeese State last Saturday in the Samford Classic.

Senior guard Britney Jones is leading UAB from the point guard position. Jones has scored in double figures in all but one game this season and is averaging 15.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.2 steals per contest.

Sophomore guard Amanda Peterson is adding 12.5 ppg for the Blazers, including 3.2 three-point buckets per game, which ranks her first in Conference USA and 18th in the nation in that category.

Florida enters Wednesday's contest at 6-1 after picking up a pair of wins at the Junkanoo Jam tournament in the Bahamas last weekend. The Gators are sitting just outside the latest AP Top 25 poll, receiving 47 points.

Senior guard Sha Books is a do-it-all player for Florida, averaging 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists ad 1.3 steals per game. Senior forward Marshae Dotson is also contributing big numbers for the Gators, scoring 11.7 ppg and pulling down a team-best 8.0 rpg.

Wednesday will mark the third meeting on the hardwood between UAB and Florida, with the Gators holding a 2-0 lead in the all-time series. The two teams have not played each other in almost 25 years. Florida won the last meeting, 82-66, in Gainesville on Dec. 17, 1983.

UAB and Florida will tip off on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. CT at Bartow Arena. Fans can follow the game live on Gametracker, or watch and listen on All-Access, by logging on to www.uabsports.com.
