The UAB women's golf team shot a 333 in first round play of the Edwin Watts/Carolinas Classic in Pinehurst, NC. Leading the tournament are Georgia State and North Carolina-Greensboro with a score of 316.

Shooting an opening round score of 79, sophomore Christina Gushanas leads the way for the Blazers. Gushanas is tied for 15th, four strokes back of first round leaders Patricia Martinson of Charleston Southern and Meaghan Francella of Memphis who both shot 75.

Freshman Emily Hendricks is one shot back of Gushanas, shooting nines of 39-41 for a first round 80 and a share of 22nd place.
