April 4, 2008
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The UAB women's golf team is sitting in eighth place with a team total of 323 after the opening round of the Crimson Tide Classic Friday at the Ol' Colony Golf Course. The Blazers endured a lengthy delay in the midst of their first round due to inclement weather in the area. Host-school Alabama leads the tournament by tallying a score of 300 after 18 holes. Samford is in second place with a total of 304, while Kentucky is third with a score of 307. Freshman Jaime Brabb paced the Blazers by carding a 77 to tie for 14th place in the individual standings. Fellow freshman Lindsay Taylor tied for 32nd place by shooting an 80. Junior Christina Wentworth and sophomore Carolyn Cochran finished round one with identical scores of 83 to tie for 49th place, while junior Alyson Mitchell tied for the 64th position with an 18-hole score of 88. "We performed okay today," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "The weather played a big role for everybody today. Not only with the rain delay, but it was windy throughout the day." The Blazers will play the second round of the Crimson Tide Classic on Saturday, followed by the third and final round on Sunday.
