UAB In Eighth After Day One Of C-USA Women's Golf Championship
April 23, 2007 ONEONTA, Ala. - The UAB women's golf team sits in eighth place at 326 after day one of the 2007 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship, hosted by the Blazers at Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, Ala. UTEP and SMU are tied for the top spot after one round with a score of 308. UCF is holding down the third spot at 309, while Memphis and East Carolina are in fourth and fifth, respectively, with scores of 310 and 314. Tulsa shot a 315 to stand in sixth, while Marshall is in seventh at 325. The Blazers are in the eighth spot with a score of 326 and Southern Miss rounds out the field in ninth at 328. UAB's top performer on day one was senior Martha Hudson, who shot a 78 to tie for 14th place in the individual race. Senior Jennifer Head and freshman Carolyn Cochran carded identical scores of 80 to tie for the 17th spot. Sophomore Christina Wentworth sits in 40th place at +16 (88) and sophomore Alyson Mitchell is in 44th with a score of 92. UTEP's Gerina Mendoza is atop the individual standings with a first-round score of 68. Memphis' Stacey Tate and SMU's Kate Ackerson are tied for second place, recording day one totals of 73. The three-round tournament will continue with round two on Tuesday. The first tee times of the day are set for 8:30 a.m. The third and final round will be held on Wednesday, with the awards presentation immediately following.
