UAB Women's Golf Finishes Fourth At Lady Herd Fall Classic
Sept. 11, 2007
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - The UAB women's golf team concluded the Lady Herd Fall Classic in fourth place out of eight teams on Tuesday afternoon and the Guyun Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W. Va. The Blazers shot a 322 on the final day of competition to finish the tournament with a score of 983. "I thought we did okay," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "We got some good experience, especially for the two that never played in a collegiate tournament before. "There was about four or five holes that gave everybody trouble. Other than that, I thought it was a good two days for us. We just have to work harder and keep improving." Junior Alyson Mitchell was UAB's top performer, placing fifth overall with a total of 235 that included two rounds of 77. Sophomore Carolyn Cochran tied for the 13th position at 244, while junior Christina Wentworth finished with a third-round score of 78 to put her in 16th place with a total of 246. Freshman Jamie Brabb was tied for 24th place in her first collegiate competition, shooting a 258 over three rounds. Redshirt freshman Ashley Looney also competed for the Blazers for the first time in Huntington, taking 37th place with a total of 283. James Madison won the two-day event by recording rounds of 310, 313 and 316 to finish at 939. Host-school Marshall took second place with a 959, followed by Old Dominion in third at 963. The Blazers will be back in action when they compete at the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Conn. on Sept. 29-30.
