Blazers Finish in Two-Way Tie For Ninth at Great Smokies Intercollegiate

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - The UAB women's golf team improved three positions during the second day of competition at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate to finish the tournament in a tie for ninth place out of 23 teams competing. The Blazers tied with Charleston Southern with a two-round score of 611. Host-school Western Carolina won the tournament with rounds of 292 and 294 (586). East Tennessee State, who was in first place after day one, dropped to second with a two-round total of 587. Winthrop and South Alabama finished in third and fourth position respectively with totals of 595 and 596. Senior Martha Hudson led the Blazers with rounds of 74 and 76 to end the weekend tied for 21st with a total of 150. Sophomore Alyson Mitchell posted consistent rounds of 75 and 76 to tie for 25th. Senior Jennifer Head shot a 74 during the second round, a four-stroke improvement from day-one's score of 78, to finish in the 32nd spot. Sophomore Christina Wentworth shot a 161 and freshman Carolyn Cochran ended with a 166 to place 86th and 96th respectively. The Blazers will be back in action on October 20 when they travel to Greenville, N.C. to compete in a three-day tournament at East Carolina University.
