UAB Finishes First Round Of USF-Waterlefe Invitational Before Rain Moves In
Oct. 6, 2008 BRADENTON, Fla. - The UAB women's golf team got through one round of the USF-Waterlefe Invitational Monday before rain moved in and postponed the tournament's second round of play. The Blazers are in 14th place following 18 holes with a score of 309 at the par-72, 5,962-yard Waterlefe Golf & River Club. The tournament, which was originally scheduled for three rounds of play, will now only be two rounds. Since Monday's second round was postponed due to inclement weather, round two will be played on Tuesday and the third round will not be played. Leading the way for the Blazers was senior Christina Wentworth, who is in a tie for 14th place overall after shooting a one-over par 73 during round one. Sophomore Lindsay Taylor is tied for 20th place with an 18-hole score of 74, while fellow sophomore Jaime Brabb shot a 79 to tie for 56th place. Rounding out UAB's efforts were senior Alyson Mitchell and sophomore Ashley Looney. Mitchell sits in a tie for 73rd with a score of 83 and Looney is tied for 84th place, shooting a 90 during the first round of play. Campbell is leading the tournament with a two-over par 290. Host-school USF is second after shooting a 293. Nova Southeastern rounds out the top three, carding a 294 on day one. The second and final round of the USF-Waterlefe Invitational will tee off at 8 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
