Women's Golf Move Up to Third at the Beacon Woods Invitational

Oct. 14, 2000

BAYONET POINT, Fla. - The University of South Florida women's golf team maintained its lead after two rounds of the Beacon Woods Invitational at the Beacon Woods Golf Club but UCF and UAB promise to make Sunday's final round a battle to the end.

USF and UAB shot second round 301s, the best team score of Saturday's second round, and USF now holds a two-stroke advantage over UCF, who shot 302 today, and a six-shot lead over fellow Conference USA member UAB. USF is attempting to defend its 1999 Beacon Woods Championship.

The battle for medalist honors is every bit as competitive with three golfers tied at three-over par 147, including Kelly Lagedrost of USF, Heather Lourie of UAB and Michelle Simpson of Florida International.

Next in line for the Blazers is freshman Emily Hendricks who shot a two-over par 74. Hendricks has a total of 154, just seven shots off the lead. Sophomore Christina Gushanas also shot a second round 74 for a total of 155.

The final round will be played Sunday morning.
