UAB Women's Golf Holds 9th Place After First Round Of Rainbow Wahine Fall Golf Classic
Oct. 31, 2000 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - - The UAB women's golf team holds a ninth place tie after the first round of action Tuesday in the Rainbow Wahine Fall Golf Classic being held in Oahu, Hi. UCLA holds the team lead with a 298 overall score. The Bruins are followed by Texas A&M (305), New Mexico (307), Oregon (309), San Francisco (309), Tulane (311), San Jose State (311), Idaho (312), San Diego State (313), UAB (313), Washington (315), Mississippi (317), Long Beach State (318), Northern Arizona (320) and host Hawai'i (336). UAB freshman Karen Quinn leads the Blazers individually with a 75 in the opening round, good for a seventh-place tie. Fellow UAB freshman Emily Hendricks is next in scoring for the Blazers in a tie for 29th with a 78, while junior Heather Lourie finds herself in a 37th place tie with a first-round 79. Sophomore Christina Gushanas ranks in a 52nd place tie with a round of 81 and sophomore Jenni Elmore collected a 95 for a 77th place finish after the first 18 holes. UCLA's Saki Vechi shot a one-over 73 to hold the individual lead.
The Blazers were scheduled to play another round later Tuesday and complete tournament play Wednesday in the 54-hole event.
