GULF SHORES, Ala. - Senior Christina Wentworth shot a two-over par 74 on Monday to lead the UAB women's golf team during day one of the annual UAB Fall Beach Blast. The Blazers are in eighth place with a score of 314 following 18 holes at The Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club.

"I am pleased with the way that we played today," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "I was happy with the results. The course was in great shape and the greens are fast. It's a tight competition ourselves in a good position entering tomorrow's final round."

Wentworth was UAB's top performer in round one, shooting a 74 to tie for seventh place in the individual standings. Sophomore Lindsay Taylor finished four over with a total of 76 for a share of 16th place after 18 holes.

Sophomore Jaime Brabb and senior Alyson Mitchell carded identical scores of 82 to tie for the 47th position. Freshman Kristin Lottman tallied an 87 to end day one in a tie for 65th place in her first tournament of the season.

Columbia is leading the tournament after posting a score of 297. Samford is in second place with a 12-over par 300. UT-San Antonio rounds out the top three after concluding the day at 303.

In the individual race, Samford's Sara Hunt is leading the way after shooting a one-under 71. Columbia's Lynda Kwon is second at even par (72) and four different players are tied for third with a 73.
