Women's Golf In 14th Place After Day One Of UAB Fall Beach Blast

UAB Fall Beach Blast - Day One Results GULF SHORES, Ala. - The UAB women's golf team is sitting in 14th place after day one of the second annual UAB Fall Beach Blast at The Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club Monday. The Blazers ended the first round of the two-round event with a total of 334. East Carolina shot a 291 to lead the tournament after day one. The Pirates are six shots ahead of Louisiana-Monroe, who is in second place with a 297. UT-San Antonio is third, tallying a 305 during the first round. UT-Pan American is right behind in fourth at 306 and Samford rounds out the top five with a score of 308. "This is a great event for us to host," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "It's the second year for this tournament and it gets bigger every year. The Peninsula is a great facility to host this event and we have a lot of excellent talent competing here." Freshman Lindsay Taylor led the Blazers' efforts with a 79, including a team-best 38 on the front nine. Taylor sits in a tie for 29th place going into the final day of competition. Junior Christina Wentworth, sophomore Carolyn Cochran and freshman Jaime Brabb all ended the day with scores of 85 to tie for 61st place in the individual standings. Junior Alyson Mitchell rounded out UAB's scoring with an 88 to tie for the 66th spot. "I thought we could've played a lot better today," said Wilcox. "We need to go back and regroup tonight and try to come out tomorrow and improve our scores."
Leading the individual standings after day one is Angela Drane of Louisiana-Monroe with a three-under 69. Tuesday will mark the second and final day of the UAB Fall Beach Blast, with the first group teeing off at 8:00 a.m. |
