Women's Golf Moves Up One Spot During Final Day Of UAB Fall Beach Blast

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The UAB women's golf team concluded its second annual UAB Fall Beach Blast Tuesday in 13th place with a two-round score of 657 at The Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club. The Blazers shot 323 on day two, an 11-stroke improvement from their score of 334 during round one. East Carolina maintained its first-place standing from day one to take home the tournament title with a 13-over 589. UT-San Antonio placed second with identical rounds of 305 for a total of 610. Louisiana-Monroe took home third with a score of 612, followed by Samford in fourth place at 616. UT-Pan American rounded out the top five with a total of 619. In the individual race, East Carolina's Amber Littman took home the championship with rounds of 70 and 75 to finish at 145. Shelly Martinez of UT-San Antonio was one stroke back at 146 to place second. UAB's top performers were freshmen Lindsay Taylor and Jaime Brabb, who both ended with scores of 163 to tie for 45th overall. Junior Christina Wentworth shots rounds of 85 and 79 to tie for 49th place with a total of 164. Sophomore Carolyn Cochran tied for 56th at 167 and junior Alyson Mitchell rounded out UAB's efforts by shooting a 173 to tie for 65th place. "We did a lot better today," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "Obviously, we did not finish where we would have liked to. We still have to get better, but we are making improvements.
"We really enjoy hosting this event. I think it was a big hit. It's just a great way to end the fall schedule." The tournament marked the final event of the fall season for the Blazers. UAB will return to action March 3-4 when it competes in the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational in Mobile, Ala. |
