COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The UAB women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 match to Conference USA foe Colorado College Friday evening.

The Blazers move to 3-8 overall and are 1-2 in league games. Colorado College, which was ranked No. 30 in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer.com coming into the weekend, improves to 8-3-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Colorado College got on the board in the seventh minute when Kelsey Wise put one in the back of the net for the first score of the game. The Tigers followed that with a goal in the 21st minute, courtesy of Kelly Lavoie and assisted by Wise, to give them a 2-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, Colorado College took a 3-0 lead in the 53rd minute with a goal by Ericka Baer, assisted by Lavoie. Molly Uyenishi rounded out the scoring for the Tigers with a goal in the 57th minute to give Colorado College the 4-0 conference win over UAB.

"After we gave up that first goal, we just never recovered," said UAB head coach Paul Harbin. "Things just didn't go our way today."

Colorado College had a 25-10 advantage in shots over UAB. The Tigers also had 14 shots on goal, while the Blazers tallied six.

Junior forward Danya Barsalona and freshman forward Tiffini Turpin paced UAB in shots with two apiece. Six other Blazers accounted for one shot each.

Lavoie led Colorado College with six shots, followed by Tiffany Brown with four. Baer and Uyenishi added three shots each for the Tigers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Blankenship received the loss for UAB, allowing four goals and tallying 10 saves. Caitlin Hulyo earned the win in goal for Colorado College, nabbing six saves on the night.

 

 

The Blazers will be back in action on Sunday when they take on UTEP in another C-USA matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT in El Paso, Texas.

"We're excited to get to UTEP and play," said Harbin. "We will regroup from this past game and move on. We will be ready to play on Sunday."
