UAB's Liverpool Picked To Play With Trinidad And Tobago National Team

April 21, 2007

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB women's soccer player Nadine Liverpool has been chosen to play for the Trinidad and Tobago National Soccer Team during the 2007 Futbol Internacional Soccer Festival beginning Sunday. The event will make its way through six Alabama cities over seven days and will feature six national teams from various countries.

The six-team, nine-match tournament will feature the United States' U-21, Mexico's U-21 and China's U-21 teams, Canada's Olympic Development squad, and the full national teams from Trinidad and Tobago and Argentina.

Liverpool, who is a sophomore midfielder at UAB, is a native of Canada, but qualifies for the Trinidad and Tobago national team because her parents are both from there.

"Nadine has worked extremely hard over her two years here at UAB," said UAB head coach Paul Harbin. "Without a doubt, she has blossomed into one of the top players in the conference and now has a chance to show what she can do with Trinidad and Tobago at the international level. Representing their country is not something many people get to do. I know that she will enjoy it and take full advantage of the experience."

The event, which is only one of four worldwide international women's soccer events of its kind outside of the World Cup and the Olympics, will kick off on Sunday with a pair of games at Legion Field in Birmingham.

The tournament will then head to the cities of Huntsville, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Decatur and end with the championship match in Mobile on Saturday, April 28.

Liverpool will get her first taste of competition on Tuesday when Trinidad and Tobago takes on the United States U-21 team in Huntsville.
