Blazers Open Season With Games At Clemson And Auburn

UAB vs. Clemson Game Notes BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team will begin the 2008 regular season this weekend with a pair of road games at Clemson and Auburn. The Blazers will open the season at Clemson on Friday with kickoff schedule for 7 p.m. ET at Riggs Field. UAB will follow that with a Sunday evening game at Auburn, slated for 7 p.m. CT at the Auburn Soccer Complex. The Blazers, who finished the 2007 season at 9-8-2 overall and 5-3-1 in Conference USA, return 14 letterwinners, including seven starters. That experience will be combined with nine newcomers as the Blazers enter the '08 campaign. Clemson is coming off a 10-6-5 record a season ago and returns six starters. The Tigers and the Blazers have played two times in the past, with Clemson winning both of those contests. The last meeting resulted in a 1-0 Tiger victory in 2006. Auburn and UAB have met eight times on the pitch, with the series tied at 4-4. The Tigers played to a 10-8-2 overall record and a 6-5-0 record in the Southeastern Conference, where they finished second a year ago. Auburn returns 10 starters from the 2007 squad.
