Blazers Host Rice, Houston In A Pair Of C-USA Games

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team has a pair of home games scheduled this weekend. The Blazers will host Rice at 7 p.m. CT Friday, followed by a match with Houston on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both games will be held at UAB's West Campus Field.

The Blazers enter the game at 3-9 overall and 1-3 in Conference USA games. UAB is paced by junior Danya Barsalona with three goals and one assist on the year. The Blazers have three freshmen, Laura McCalla, Carolyn Polcari, and Tiffini Turpin, that are second on the squad with two goals apiece.

Rice enters Friday's game at 7-4 on the season, including a 3-1 league record that has the Owls tied for second place in the C-USA standings.

Shelley Wong is leading Rice with seven goals, followed closely by Anne Candee, who has found the back of the net five times this year. Erin Scott has tallied a team-best five assists, while also adding three goals for the Owls.

Houston currently holds a 4-6-1 overall record and a 0-3-1 mark in C-USA. The Cougars are led on the field by Jessica Zavalza with a team-high three goals.

Stephanie Derieg has added one goal and a team-best three assists for the Cougars.
