UAB's Tiffini Turpin Named C-USA Player Of The Week
Oct. 13, 2008
DALLAS, Texas - UAB's Tiffini Turpin tallied four of the Blazers' nine goals to lead them to a 2-0 record this past weekend and be honored as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The award is the first weekly honor of Turpin's career. Turpin, a freshman forward from Birmingham, Ala., scored two goals and added an assist in UAB's 5-2 win over Houston this past Friday. She followed that with two goals, one unassisted and one off a penalty kick, in Sunday's 4-1 victory over Houston. For the weekend, Turpin had four goals on eight shots and one assist, tallying nine points in the two games. She now leads UAB with six goals this season, while also adding two assists for a team-best 14 points. Turpin has scored five of those goals in conference play, leading C-USA in that category at this point in the season. The Blazers (5-9, 3-3 C-USA) will be in action this weekend when they travel to Tulsa, Okla. to take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Friday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at the Hurricane Soccer Stadium. Tupin was honored this week along with Kelsey Bakker of Memphis, who was named C-USA's Defensive Player of the Week.
