Blazers Travel To Tulsa, SMU For C-USA Matchups This Weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team will hit the road for a pair of Conference USA games, including a Friday match at Tulsa and a Sunday contest at SMU.

The Blazers are coming off a pair of league wins last weekend and are holding an overall record of 5-9, including a 3-3 mark in C-USA.

UAB is led by freshman forward Tiffini Turpin with six goals and two assists for 14 points this season. Turpin received a pair of awards this week, including C-USA Offensive Player of the Week and SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week, after scoring four goals in two games last weekend.

Freshman forward Laura McCalla has five goals on the season, while freshman midfielder Carolyn Polcari and junior forward Danya Barsalona have found the back of the net three times each for the Blazers. Polcari also has a team-best three assists this year.

Tulsa has an overall record of 6-7-2 and a 1-4-1 mark in conference games. Most recently, the Golden Hurricane dropped a 2-1 match at Marshall last Sunday.

Leading the way for Tulsa is Jennifer Kacergis and Hannah Taylor with five goals apiece. Courtney Chadney is next on the list with three goals this season. Kacergis and Shannon Locke are pacing the squad in assists with three each.

SMU is posting an overall record of 5-8-1 and a league record of 3-3. In their last outing, the Mustangs fell to East Carolina 2-1 this past Sunday.

Caitlin Carter has scored a team-high three goals for SMU, followed by Lauren Shepherd, Dylan Jordan, Devon Herrman and Logan May with two goals each. Kaitlyn Eidson has tallied three assists on the year to lead the Mustangs in that category.

UAB and Tulsa will kickoff at 7 p.m. CT on Friday at the Hurricane Soccer Stadium. The Blazers will meet the SMU Mustangs in a 1 p.m. CT match Sunday at Wescott Field. Both games can be followed live on Gametracker by logging onto www.UABsports.com.
