Lucy Bass, a former Blazer player, begins her eighth season as an assistant coach. Bass returned to her role in June 2006 after serving as the Director of Softball Operations for a year. Bass was an assistant coach at UAB from 2003-04 before taking a job as a physical education teacher in Birmingham. Prior to the 2003 fall season, Bass served as both a volunteer assistant and a student assistant for the UAB softball team. Bass has been a member of the UAB softball program as a player, coach and camp assistant since its inaugural season in 2000. She worked as a student assistant coach during the 2001-02 campaign after spending two successful seasons as a key utility player on the Blazer squad. From 2000-01, Bass played in a total of 112 games for the Blazers and helped lead the program to its first 50 victories and its first 10-win Conference USA season. As a junior, the Dade City, Fla. native led the team in doubles (10) and posted a stellar .958 fielding percentage. Before arriving at UAB, Bass spent two years playing under Jeff Roberts at Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Fla. Bass graduated in May of 2002 with a degree in social psychology and a minor in health education from UAB. |
