Beth Mullins, who played at UAB from 2001-04, returned to her alma mater in June 2007 as an assistant coach. A former second baseman for the Blazers, Mullins will primarily be working with infielders and instructing hitters and slappers in her second season at UAB. The Fairhope, Ala. native joins the UAB staff after spending two seasons as an assistant softball coach at Georgia Southern University. During Mullins' tenure at GSU, the Eagles captured the Southern Conference Tournament Championship and made their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Prior to working at GSU, Mullins spent a year as a student assistant coach at UAB helping with the instruction of hitters and infielders. She also coordinated and instructed at Marla Townsend's softball camps for four years. Mullins was a key starter for the Blazer squad during her playing career. She earned Conference USA All-Freshman Team honors and helped the team to a program-best 39-22 record during her sophomore season. A four-year letterwinner, Mullins' career stats still rank among the top 10 in several categories in school history. Mullins graduated from Fairhope High School in 2000 and earned her Bachelor of Arts from UAB in 2005, majoring in political science with a double minor in coaching and criminal justice. |
