Women's Tennis Drops Home Opener to Troy State
Feb. 3, 2002
BIRMINGHAM - The UAB women's tennis team fell 4-2 to Troy State in its opening match of the season this afternoon at the Brook Highland Racquet Club. With cool temperatures and a slight drizzle, the weather was no bother for the Trojans as they jumped out early on the Blazers and captured the doubles point. In singles play, Monika Schmid and Femke deBoer were the only two Blazers to come away with points. Schmid, playing in the no. 1 spot, defeated Luisa Lopez 6-3, 6-1, while deBoer defeated Sally Linden 6-3, 7-5 at the no. 4 spot. The Blazers will look to bounce back on Feb. 9 as they host Tennessee-Chattanooga at the Brook Highland Racquet Club. Troy State def.
