Women's Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision To Georgia State

ATLANTA, Ga. - The UAB women's tennis team lost, 6-1, at Georgia State on Saturday. The Blazers are now 7-3 on the year after losing three of their last four matches. UAB freshman Ceylan Engin was the lone winner for the Blazers. UAB lost the doubles point by dropping all three contests. Senior Antonia Nugent and freshman Evelien Strijker lost 8-2 at No. 1, while senior Gulsah Esen and freshman Giorgia Romeo lost 8-1 at flight three. Senior Seden Soyalp and freshman Jenny Cape dropped an 8-4 decision at No. 3. Engin won at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (4) to record the team's lone victory of the day. Strijker lost 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at flight one singles, while Esen fell 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2. Nugent lost a tightly contested match at No. 3, 7-6 (6), 7-5 and Cape lost 6-1, 6-2 at flight four. Freshman Giorgia Romeo lost 6-3, 7-5 at flight five to round out the singles action.
