UAB Falls To UCF, 4-0

April 4, 2008

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The UAB women's tennis team lost a 4-0 decision to UCF at Memphis Friday afternoon. The Blazers are now 7-4 on the year and will take on UTEP in Memphis on Saturday.

UCF improves to 9-8 with the victory.

"I don't think we played that bad," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "UCF was just the better team. I still think we have improved the past couple of weeks. Now we need to get ready for tomorrow's match."

The Knights won the doubles point after getting a key win at No. 1 that came down to a tiebreaker. UCF's Jenny Frisell and Kyla McNicol defeated senior Antonia Nugent and freshman Evelien Strijker at the top flight, 9-8, while Anna Yakimchenkova and Kenza Belbacha beat senior Seden Soyalp and freshman Jenny Cape, 8-4, at No. 3 to close out the doubles point.

Flight two doubles was not finished.

Frisell earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Strijker at No. 1 singles and Elvira Serrot beat senior Gulsah Esen, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2. At flight three, McNicol beat Nugent, 6-2, 6-2.

Flights four, five and six were not finished.

UAB will take on UTEP at 10:00 a.m. in Memphis on Saturday.
