Women's Tennis Captures a Victory in Last Regular Season Match

BIRMINGHAM Ð The UAB women's tennis team finished out their spring season on a high note defeating Louisiana-Lafayette 4-1 Sunday at the Brook Highland Racquet Club. The Blazers (9-9) started the match winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, taking the all-important doubles point and the 1-0 lead. UAB's 57th-ranked doubles team of Monika Schmid and Femke deBoer notched their 12th win of the season upending ULL's Vinca Rampen and Robin Singh, 8-1. In singles, UAB's Natascha Immele defeated Frenanda Kompetsener, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot, while deBoer captured a 6-3, 6-2 win over Singh at the No. 4 slot. UAB's Yvonne Ernst wrapped up singles wins for the Blazers with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Amanda Cowieson. The Blazers will head to the Conference USA Championship Thursday.
