Ertunga Goes for 200th Career Win Against Samford on Wednesday
March 27, 2007 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB head coach Mert Ertunga is in his 14th season at the helm of the Blazer women's tennis program and needs just one win to total 200 for his career. He will have an opportunity to reach that milestone on Wednesday when his Blazers take on the Samford Bulldogs at 2 p.m. in Birmingham. UAB is 10-1 (1-0 C-USA) on the year after beating Lehigh, 6-1, in Bethlehem, Pa. on March 13. With just four matches remaining, Ertunga's senior led team has put together one of the most successful seasons in his career. In 2001, Ertunga led the Blazers to a 21-3 finish, while placing second in the conference, and in 1996, he led the Blazers to their only Conference USA championship after finishing 18-3. The Blazers are led by a strong group of seniors. Julia von Samson, one of four seniors on the team, is currently on a 10-match winning streak that dates back to the fall season. Two other UAB seniors have put together solid win streaks as well with Annemieke Elsholz winning her last eight matches and Nischa Maier-Knapp winning six-straight. The Blazers and the Bulldogs will get underway at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
