Men's and Women's Tennis Head to C-USA Championship
April 17, 2002 BIRMINGHAM Ð The UAB men's tennis team is seeded sixth, while the women's tennis team is seeded seventh as they get set to head to the Conference USA Championships this weekend. Ranked 58th in the latest Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings, the sixth seeded Blazer men will face 11th-seeded Marquette Thursday in a 11 a.m. tilt at the Bass-Russ Tennis Center in Louisville, Ky. UAB finished up with a 13-8 overall record and a perfect 4-0 in C-USA. During the season, the Blazers defeated East Carolina, Saint Louis, DePaul and Charlotte. If the Blazers win, they will face third seeded South Florida who received a bye in the first round.
The UAB women will head to the Championship seeded seventh after posting a 9-9 overall record and 4-1 record in C-USA. The Blazer tandem of Monika Schmid and Femke deBoer are ranked 57th in the nation and are 12-4 on the season. The Blazers will face 10th-seeded Louisville in first round action Thursday at 9 a.m. A victory would move them on to face second seeded DePaul who earned one of two byes in round one.
