UAB Cross Country Competes at Disney World Classic
Oct. 10, 2008
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB cross country team heads off this weekend to take part in the 13th annual Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic in Orlando, Fla. The 5K race is scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. CDT on Saturday. The Blazers are looking to continue their successful season after posting three consecutive third-place finishes in the first three meets. "They say Disney is the `happiest place on earth'," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "I'm hoping we run that way." The Blazers will be tested this weekend as they face a competitive field, including No. 14 Florida and Conference USA foes Houston and UCF, among others. "The girls rebounded well after Louisville," said Stanfield. "This week, we get to face nationally-ranked Florida and other very good teams. After this meet we will really know where we stand." Expected to lead the way for the Blazers is sophomore Stephanie Gammon. Gammon has been the first Blazer to cross the finish line in every meet this season. She has two top-10 finishes and has been named C-USA Cross Country Athlete of the Week twice.
