Gammon Honored As UAB Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

Sophomore has been top finisher for UAB at each fall event

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Sophomore cross country runner Stephanie Gammon has been selected as the UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

In her two years at UAB, Gammon has been one of the team's top runners. She was also a key component of the 2007 squad that was named an All-Academic Team for the sixth consecutive year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

This fall, Gammon has led the Blazers in all five of their meets. She finished third individually at the Walt Disney World Classic as she helped UAB to the team title. Then, at last weekend's Conference USA Championship, she earned a 15th-place individual finish as the Blazers claimed fourth place as a team.

Gammon has been honored twice this season as the C-USA Cross Country Runner of the Week, earning the award in back-to-back weeks (Sept. 9 and 16).

In addition to their victory at the Walt Disney World Classic, the Blazers have finished third in three other meets this fall. Gammon and the cross country team continue their season Nov. 15 when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the NCAA South Regional Championship.
